A new report from Bloomberg today says that Apple is looking to revise its deals with the record industry. Specifically, Apple is seeking to lower the share of revenue that record labels receive from Apple Music plays… The report explains that Apple’s current deal with major labels is up at the end of June and both parties are currently in the process of renegotiating. Though, if a new deal isn’t reached by the end of the month, the current agreement will reportedly be extended for the time being....

I’ve been looking for a computer with the muscle to handle hardcore NLE video editing while working on a couple of musical compositions, checking the email, running an IM session and handling the hassle of Flash crashing in the browser, and I think Apple deliverd this very machine this morning — the new Mac Pro, a supercalifragilistic speed demon with up to 12 (yeah, count them) processing cores. Apple promises the new Mac Pro will deliver 50 percent greater performance than the previous generation....

iOS 7’s flashy launch earlier this year overshadowed a breakthrough new feature: iBeacons, a location-based technology with profound implications for industries such as retail. An iBeacon system could allow a store to install transmitters that would wirelessly connect to an iPhone and tell the phone its location with respect to items on shelves. This iPhone could then perform additional functionality if it is equipped with a specialized application. According to multiple sources, Apple is planning to soon enable just that in its retail stores… Apple is said to have begun stocking up on iBeacon transmitters, and the company, in the next few days, will begin installing these sensors in many Apple Stores across the United States....

Earlier this week we noted that Apple has refreshed the Beats by Dre wireless Beats Powerbeats 2 earbuds with new colors aimed at Apple Watch Sport users. Today, Apple has updated its Beats headphones website to promote the new line of headphones along with a new price: $179, which is $20 less than the previous price at $199. With its onboard storage for music and Bluetooth connection, Apple is promoting these headphones as a way to tap into listening to music with the Apple Watch without the need of a connected iPhone....

According to a report from CRN, Apple is apparently working with VMware on a cloud-hosted office suite iPad app that is said to combine Apple’s iWork apps and VMware View virtual-desktop software. The app is supposedly being built to be a direct competitor with Microsoft Office and its cloud services. The report said the app will include cloud-hosted versions of Numbers, Keynote, and Pages apps, and it will bring functionality of VMware’s “Horizon Application Manager....

Apple TV+ has given a straight-to-series order for a docuseries hosted by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton, as first reported by Deadline. The series will be inspired by their new book entitled The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience. The report explains: The untitled docuseries will be produced for Apple TV+ by HiddenLight Productions, the production company founded by Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, and Sam Branson....

Notice something weird about your Apple Watch since updating to watchOS 5.2? There’s a software bug affecting the Explorer watch face on the latest Apple Watch update. The Explorer face, recognized for its bold red watch hands, is only available on the cellular models of Apple Watch Series 3 and later; GPS-only models and older watches don’t feature the special analog watch face. If you do have the Explorer face, you may notice that the minute and hour numbers are missing since updating to this week’s watchOS 5....

Aquaman producer Peter Safran has confirmed that Julie Andrews plays a small (but important) role in the film. By sheer coincidence, the DC superhero movie will hit theaters two days after Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns - a sequel to the 1964 Mary Poppins movie musical that Andrews starred in. UPDATE: Read everything revealed by the Aquaman set visit reports. The forthcoming entry of Warner Bros’ DC movie universe, Aquaman, will feature two-thirds of the movie taking place underwater. The last entry into the series was Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder. Archos recently showed off its latest product—a fancy, ultra thin Bluetooth keyboard cover for the iPad—and, boy, is it slim. Apple’s second major bond sale, designed to raise cash for the stock buybacks Tim Cook promised in the company’s latest earnings call, was more than three times over-subscribed, reports the WSJ. This followed a $17B bond sale almost a year ago, which set a new record for corporate debt. Apple has announced today that in-app events will officially go live in the App Store on October 27, and developers can schedule them now via App Store Connect. Apple today released the third iOS 8.2 beta to developers for testing. The first iOS 8.2 beta was previously released alongside WatchKit to allow developers to test app functionality ahead of the upcoming Apple Watch release while the second release went out last week. The iPad mini with Retina display went on sale through the Apple Online Store early Tuesday morning in an uncharacteristically soft launch. The news was prefaced by an internal memo that leaked from Apple’s GSX tool. The device is available in the United States, Australia, China (no LTE models yet), Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and Singapore. The release comes at an unexpected time. Apple didn’t officially announce the release date ahead of time, saying only that the device would be available sometime this month....

IFO Apple Store reports that Apple is revamping its back-lit in-store photo panels, replacing its signature white-background product shots with visuals inspired by its recent advertising. Out are clean, sterile close-ups of the products, and in are colorful visuals showing what people are doing with the products. The new graphics were photographed like magazine ads, showing the iPad/iPhone being used in actual situations, complete with their surrounding people and places. Their colors, tone and brightness is much richer and darker than the previous graphics …...

Apple is continuing to enhance the music recognition service Shazam, which it originally acquired back in 2018. In a new update today, Shazam for iOS should now be able to recognize even more songs… According to the release notes for today’s update to Shazam, the app’s listening recognition technology has been updated to listen “harder” and “longer” to recognize what’s playing. “Shazam now finds more songs by trying harder, for longer....
