In a new support document published today, Apple has clarified the situation around the Magic Keyboard’s compatibility with the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The company now says that the first-generation Magic Keyboard is “functionally compatible” with the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but it may not “precisely fit when closed.” The new iPad Pro is 0.5 mm thicker than its predecessor due to the new mini-LED display technology. As Apple explains, this difference in thickness is what makes the 12....

To go along with this morning’s third iOS 7 beta, Apple has released OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 3. This new preview arrives two weeks following Preview 2. Like Preview 2, it seems likely that Preview 3 focuses on bug and performance fixes. OS X Mavericks launches for the general public this fall with new Maps and iBooks apps, significant battery life, scrolling, and overall performance adjustments, and power-user features like revamped multiple-monitor support, Finder Tags, Finder Tabs, and a faster Safari browser....

In line with our report from last week, Apple has begun updating its logos on some of its more high-profile stores with green-colored leaves. Some users in Asia, Italy, and Australia are already posting posting photos of the tweaked logo. Apple plans to appeal a decision by Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato to impose $1.2 million USD fine for not providing consumers with a two-year warranty mandatory under European Union law and the Italian Consumer Code. An Apple PR representative apparently confirmed the decision to appeal the fines to The Register. We reported earlier this week that Italian antitrust authorities were fining Apple Inc., Apple Sales International, and Apple Retail Italy $1....

Apple just announced on its Investor Page that it would report its Q1 2013 earnings Jan. 23. As it does once a quarter, Apple will issue a press release at 4:30 p.m. EST with the numbers and follow with a conference call at 5 p.m. EST to discuss the results with CEO Tim Cook, CFO Peter Oppenheimer, and more. The report will give us a close look into how Apple fared during the holiday shopping season and its outlook for 2013....

In addition to adding a channel for premium TV service Showtime in the U.S. and other markets today, Apple has also rolled out two new apps for markets abroad. Starting today, Apple TV users in Sweden will get access to SVT Play, an on-demand video service run by broadcaster Sveriges Television that already had an iOS app equivalent. Another service rolling out to Apple TV users abroad today is a channel for Norwegian public broadcaster NRK....

Apple has come under fire in New Zealand after it was revealed that it had paid no tax whatsoever in the country for the past decade, despite selling more than NZ$4.2B ($2.96B) worth of products in the country. The NZ Herald said that the company’s tax arrangements had been criticized by parties across the political spectrum. Green Party co-leader James Shaw said Apple was not paying its fair share. “It is absolutely extraordinary that they are able to get away with paying zero tax in this country....

Re/code announced last month that Apple VP Greg Joswiak will be attending its Code/Mobile conference, and the VP of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing is just now kicking off that interview. The Apple Watch Series 4 officially added the ECG app in the United States last week, but details regarding an international rollout remain unclear. In a post on Twitter, Health Canada said that it has yet to receive an application from Apple to bring Apple Watch ECG support to the country… When asked whether or not it had received a medical device application for the Apple Watch Series 4 EKG functionality, Health Canada explained that it has not yet received any such application from Apple....

The first Apple Watch Series 3 reviews are out, and while the device is generally well-received, it also seems the LTE model is not without issues. The headline feature of the LTE model – the freedom to leave your phone behind while jogging, working out in the gym or heading to the beach – is what’s selling it to most reviewers. If you notice discoloration or deformation of your Sport or Leather Apple Watch band over time, you may not be happy, but it is normal, according to sources briefed on internal Apple support docs. While scratches and dents might be a given for Apple’s metal bands, you can also expect some discoloration for Apple’s fluoroelastomer Sport and selection of leather bands over time with normal wear and tear. Apple notes that discoloration of leather bands is “due to sweat or lotions” and an “expected behavior”....

Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of retail, has appeared in a new video interview with CBS This Morning where she discussed her time at the company and new Apple Store initiatives. The major new Apple Store effort centered around customer engagement is called ‘Today at Apple’ and will launch at the end of next month. The call will see the final results of Apple’s last 2009 quarter, as the company reportedly moves to beef up its product offering with improvements in its iMac range as it enters the first quarter of the 2010 financial year, which customarily begins between September 28-30. New iMacs are expected in early October. Speaking during the most recent Q3-09 call, Apple CFO, Peter Oppenheimer, predicted revenue in this quarter in the range of $8....

With informed speculation suggesting that the price of the Apple Watch Edition will be somewhere in the $6-10,000 range, you might think that would easily make it the most expensive smartwatch on the market. But no: luxury watchmaker Hoptroff makes a mechanical gold smartwatch for £14,400 ($21,700)–and the platinum model works out to a cool $54,000. Functionality may be limited, but it’s genius design. It syncs with your iPhone to access your calendar data, then one dial points to the time of your next appointment while another points to the first letter of the appointment title–for example, the name of the person you’re meeting....

Following yesterday’s iPhone XS/Max reviews, it’s now the turn for reviews of the Apple Watch Series 4 – and there couldn’t be a greater contrast between the two. Apple’s cherry-picked quotes aside, reviewers were mostly underwhelmed by the new iPhone, advising iPhone X users not to bother upgrading and owners of older models to hold fire for the iPhone XR. But when it comes to the new Watch, the clear majority view is that the Series 4 finally delivers on the promise of the device – and now is the time to buy....

Following Apple’s announcement that it expected to stop using Imagination Technologies’ GPU designs in iPhones and iPads within two years, UBS has put together a forecast of the financial impact. UBS predicts that Apple will initially reduce the royalty rate it pays on each iPhone and iPad produced to just ten cents per device before ceasing payments altogether after two years … Apple currently pays Imagination 30 cents per device, accounting for around two-third of the company’s income, reports Reuters....

Since Apple confirmed the death of AirPower in March, we’ve seen countless alternatives pop up. Now, Apple is set to start selling its first multi-device wireless charger as an alternative to AirPower. As first spotted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Twitter, Apple will next week begin selling new multi-device AirPower alternatives from popular accessory maker Mophie. According to listings published early on Apple’s Latin America online store, these new solutions include a dual wireless charging base, as well as a 3-in-1 option....

Apple is finally addressing a popular feature request with the iOS 9 upgrade to HealthKit and the built-in Health app on iPhones. Users will be able to log reproductive health data with the app including menstruation data. The update will also support tracking water intake, time spent not moving, and more metrics. The lack of female-specific health tracking features has been a huge source of criticism for the company since it introduced Health last year....
