Apple is continuing its popular “Everyday Experiments” video series this weekend to promote the iPhone 13’s camera features. The latest installment in this series is entitled “Hollywood at Home” and it features several different scenes including RC cars, food, and pets. The film clips shown in this video were shot on iPhone 13 by professional filmmakers, with Apple saying the video was “commissioned by Apple.” The goal of the video is to showcase that you can “create beautiful and cinematic shots just like the movies using everyday objects with iPhone 13....

After running a preview of the new software, Docker is officially launching its collaborative app development platform for M1 Macs today. The release means faster and quieter performance for Docker Desktop on macOS. Docker detailed the news in a press release today: The company says that ~45,000 copies of the beta software with M1 support were tested by developers and heard feedback that it is “faster and quieter and just as easy to get up and running in minutes where they can rapidly code, test and collaborate while ensuring consistency between development and production environments....

After Apple released a patch to a Java vulnerability that lead to the infection of roughly 600,000 Macs with the Flashback Trojan earlier this year, there were claims weeks later from security researchers that hundreds of thousands of Macs were still infected. Kaspersky’s CEO claimed Apple is “now entering the same world as Microsoft has been in for more than 10 years.” Now, as noted by PCWorld, Apple appears to be publicly changing its longstanding stance that “it doesn’t get PC viruses....

One of the numbers disclosed in Apple’s Schedule 14A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission was the amount Apple spends annually on protecting CEO Tim Cook. Patently Apple spotted the entry listing “security expenses in the amount of $699,133.” Tim Cook rarely has much visible security when seen at public events, but bodyguards are doubtless there in the background. It’s likely that a sizeable chunk of the expenditure protects his surprisingly modest four-bedroom home … The figure likely reflects only those costs that are specific to protecting Cook....

Apple has released a major update to the Apple Support app for iPhone and iPad today. The update brings a new user interface, Dark Mode support, and much more. Today’s update brings the app to version 4.0, and it comes as more Apple customers than ever before are relying on at-home support options for their software and devices. Apple Arcade is set to launch this fall with over 100 new, exclusive games and the company has made the notable hire of Nat Brown, an Xbox co-creator and former Valve engineer before the game service arrives. Reported by Variety, Nat Brown shared the news on Twitter that he started his new role at Apple this week. After his time at Microsoft and co-creating the Xbox, Brown has held a number of positions in the tech industry including VP of technology at Myspace....

Apple has announced that it will report earnings for the holiday period, and its next quarterly earnings call, on January 29. The announcement follows a major press release where Apple said it expects to miss its initial revenue guidance by about 8%. This earnings call will be very much heated as Apple has announced that it will significantly miss its originally stated guidance of $89-$83 billion in revenue, the first time it has revised guidance downwards in many, many, years....

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple has turned to a top lobbyist to help it engage on drone and aviation law in Washington D.C. This comes as Apple is reportedly exploring how to use satellites to send data directly to iPhones. The report explains that Apple has retained Lisa Ellman, a partner at Hogan Lovells, to lead its drone and aviation lobbying in Washington. Ellman leads the firm’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems practice and co-founded the Commercial Drone Alliance, while also working in the Obama administration and the Justice Department....

Apple’s upcoming wearable will appear on the cover of Vogue China’s November issue according to Business of Fashion. Several styles of the device will be worn by supermodel Liu Wen. This comes just a few weeks after Apple’s one-day-only special showing of the Apple Watch during Paris Fashion Week, proving that the company is taking a much more direct approach to the fashion world. Vogue China EiC Angelica Cheung reportedly met with Tim Cook and Jony Ive prior to the official reveal of the watch to learn about the process behind its design....

Apple’s executive responsible for the App Store developer relations has retired after two decades at the company, according to a new report by Bloomberg. The role is being handed over to a veteran Apple marketing executive. His role has been filled by Susan Prescott, Apple marketing executive, who also oversees marketing for Apple’s own apps, besides services and enterprise initiatives. She’s been at Apple since 2003, and her last appearance in a keynote was in 2018 when Apple held its education-focused event in Chicago....

Apple celebrated the tenth anniversary of Steve Jobs’s passing on Tuesday with a special version of its website homepage dedicated to the company’s cofounder. Along with a letter signed by Jobs’s family, Apple also shared a video called “Celebrating Steve,” which is now available on the company’s official YouTube channel. The two-minute 48-second video features different moments in Steve Jobs’s life, including such highlights as him introducing the first Macintosh in 1984, the iMac G3 in 1998, the iPod in 2001, the first-generation iPhone in 2007, and the MacBook Air in 2008....

Apple wanting to expand its presence in India isn’t a new development, but according to a new report from the India Times, the company has recently taken a major step in accomplishing that goal. According to the report, Apple has just filed an application with the Indian government to open its own branded retail stores in the company. Apple filed the proposal with the department of industrial policy and promotion, or DIPP, which confirmed that it has received the document....

Apple has recently started sending surveys to iPhone users about how they use the USB charger that comes in the box. This comes ahead of the iPhone 12 announcement later this year and also rumors about Apple not including the USB charger and EarPods in the box for the first time. The survey asks users what they did with the USB charger of their previous iPhone after replacing it with a new model, so Apple is targeting people who were already iPhone users and recently bought a new one....

The new display is being developed under the codename J327, but at this point, details about technical specifications are unclear. According to sources, this display will have an Apple-made SoC, which right now is the A13 Bionic chip — the same one used in the iPhone 11 lineup. Along with the A13 chip, the external display features the Neural Engine, which accelerates machine learning tasks. Although rumors suggest that Apple has been working on a less expensive display for regular users, the new external display with a dedicated SoC will likely be a new model to replace the current Pro Display XDR in the future....

Today Apple announced the winners of its iPhone Macro Challenge. While some photos were produced by professionals, others were just taken by daily iPhone users that saw an opportunity to try the macro photography function of the latest iPhone 13 Pro.
