Apple on Thursday announced its fiscal 2022 third-quarter results, which beat estimates with record numbers. During a call with investors, Apple CEO Tim Cook once again said that he doesn’t rule out acquiring large companies, but that Apple will never buy a company without having a strategic plan. Apple wouldn’t rule out major acquisitions During the call, Cook was asked about the services market, which is growing every year. The question was about Apple being interested in acquiring “external products” to expand its catalog of services even further, which may have been an indirect reference to Apple eventually acquiring Netflix....

After leaving new iPhone XR users hanging, Apple today has finally started selling a new clear case for the device. This case allows you to showcase the colorful iPhone XR design, while also keeping it protected against drops, scratches, and more. We first reported on the iPhone XR clear case earlier this year, explaining that its existence was mentioned in iPhone XR press releases in certain countries, such as Canada. The case, however, was not mentioned in the United States press release, nor did Apple make mention of it on stage....

Apple continues to file and win patents regarding its upcoming augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) headset, dubbed Apple Glasses. The company has won multiple patents today, relating to the use of gloves to detect skin-to-skin contact in AR/VR. Patently Apple stated that the VR Gloves could move a cursor, scroll, open a document, make a selection, etc. These actions could require skin-to-skin contact when the Apple Glasses are in use. Additionally, the headset’s camera or a radio frequency-based system may track fingers....

Update: Apple’s System Status website now indicates that services are back to normal. Apple has updated its System Status webpage this afternoon to note that a variety of its services are experiencing issues and downtime today. The company says the App Store may be “slow or unavailable” for some users, while other services such as iCloud Mail and iMessage are also down. Apple has announced today that it will hold its fiscal third quarter earnings call on Tuesday, July 26th at the usual time of 2PM PT/5PM ET, while the earnings release will be sent out roughly thirty minutes before then. Last quarter, Apple saw its first ever decline in iPhone sales, while it also suffered a year-over-year decline in revenue. The company did, however, report strong numbers from its services sector, while Tim Cook called Wall Street’s response to the company’s earnings an overreaction....

Apple has today announced that it will release its fourth quarter earnings on November 1st. The company will also hold an earnings call with investors at 2PM PT/5PM ET the same day. Apple announced its Q3 earnings back on July 31st. The company reported $11.5 billion in profit, with 41.3 million iPhones, 3.7 million Macs, and 11.6 million iPads sold. AppTrackr is the most popular marketplace for downloading cracked iOS applications. The company announced in a blog post, via Installous, that Apple began sending “take down” notices over cracked applications and have been scraping AppTrackr’s links looking for infractions (via iJailbreak). To combat Apple’s wrath, the crew at AppTrackr have moved several of their servers offshore to countries without copyright laws and have added CAPATCHA code to all outbound links. AppTrackr will now place an ad on the CAPATCHA page to pay for moving servers....

Following other news where Apple is complying with the GDPR, today the company outlines tools to help developers manage user data that is stored in iCloud. Starting today, Apple will supply tools to developers to allow users to both export and then delete user data stored in iCloud. This will be done by new native App and Web APIs. Apple will also be giving developers tools to restrict data. This means that when a user temporarily disables their Apple ID, no new data can be sent to iCloud, and the user’s account will be locked....

Apple has shared some tips today on getting the most out of Portrait mode photos on the iPhone 7 Plus. Talking to photographers of various fields, each provides tips on how they’re taking photos with the devices in their day-to-day lives and how the device has impressed them. A review of job ads placed by Apple suppliers in China found that over a hundred ads across more than 30 companies were illegally discriminating against Muslim Uyghurs. Other forms of discrimination found in ads that explicitly stated that the work was for Apple included age limits and bans on dyed hair and tattoos … The Information reports. To ensure that only ads relating to Apple work were included in its analysis, The Information only counted those where the Cupertino company was explicitly mentioned, or where the plant in question produced Apple products....

Apple announced that it will announce the company’s 2012 first-quarter financial results on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The call will cover financial information from the past quarter, a quarter in which we saw the the release of the widely popular iPhone 4S in addition to Apple’s new softwares iCloud and iOS 5. iFixit didn’t waste any time on a teardown of the iPhone 7 Plus, and has now done the same with the new Apple Watch Series 2. The main discovery is a much higher-capacity battery. The 273mAh battery offers almost a third more capacity than the 205mAh one in the first-gen Watch. However, all that extra power doesn’t extend the battery-life of the device – it’s rated for the same 18 hours as the original – it instead powers the built-in GPS and much brighter screen....

An Indianapolis man named Nolan Abell credits his newly purchased Apple Watch Series 8 with calling for help after a dangerous car crash. Nolan says he hit a pole while driving at a high speed just one week after buying the watch. While fighting to stay conscious, Nolan felt the haptic feedback of the Apple Watch and heard a voice asking if he was there....

Apple Watch continues to save lives by placing life-changing technology in ordinary places. Kacie Anderson, who shared her story with Shape.com, is the latest example of someone with an incredible experience with Apple Watch. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a Binding Operational Directive, requiring federal agencies to apply 24 Apple security patches. The deadline for some of these is November 17, less than two weeks from now. The directive is mandatory for federal agencies, and is recommended to all organizations. The Record notes that Apple is one of a number of companies whose patches must be applied. The directive says that “it is essential to aggressively remediate known exploited vulnerabilities....
