A report from the Commercial Times suggests that many Apple partners in the Taiwanese supply chain are expecting a stall in production as a result of the coronavirus impacts on consumer demand. “There will be a lot of stagnation in the second quarter” said one source. Apple will officially report revenues for the current quarter on April 30. The closure of Apple Stores and global retail stores is expected to have a big hit on iPhone sales....

At WWDC this week, Apple announced a handful of new features for AirPods Pro users, including Conversation Boost and Ambient Noise Reduction. Apple now says that, for the first time ever, it will offer a developer beta of AirPods Pro firmware for testing of these features. Apple made the announcement in the fine print of the Apple Developer Beta Software Downloads web page, first spotted by MacRumors. Apple says: While there is no date for when the first AirPods beta firmware will be available to developers, this will mark the first time that Apple has released beta software for its headphones....

According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple is working to launch a new form for news consumption in iTunes. The company is apparently developing something it calls Spoken Editions, which are short clips that take writing from a variety of publishers and transform it into spoken word content… Spoken Editions were leaked on iTunes earlier today, though Apple has seemingly already pulled the evidence. According to today’s report, one of the companies Apple is working with for Spoken Editions is SpokenLayaer, which creates streaming audio and podcasts for a variety of different publications....

Apple TV+ today received 52 nominations for its content at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards. The recognition was led by hit comedy Ted Lasso and this year’s breakout sci-fi workplace drama Severance. Ted Lasso was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series again, following its awards sweep last year. Severance saw top-line recognition for Best Drama Series, Adam Scott as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, ad both John Turturro and Christopher Walken got Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nominations....

Apple just pushed out updates to Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express, bringing both up to version 9.1.8 and introducing a ton of fixes and performance enhancements. The update is also for the Mac App Store version of Logic Pro. Perhaps the most notable is one for an inductive charging solution that we have heard about in the past. Apple patents surfaced last year showing new methods of inductive charging that could be used in various Apple devices. There were even rumors last year that a next-gen iPhone could sport a similar cable-free charging solution....

An Apple salesman “convinced” the Securities and Exchange Commission that it would be in their best interest to buy storage gear from both his company and Cloverleaf Communications, another party specializing in data storage solutions for big clients. The agency greenlighted the purchase of a million dollar worth of items from both Apple and Cloverleaf and carried out the transaction in the summer of 2008. The deal was essentially a no-bid contract as SEC didn’t seem fit to seek out alternative bids from more established storage vendors....

Apple has shared an investor update this afternoon focused on the guidance it provided for Q2 2020. Due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, Apple says it won’t hit the March revenue guidance numbers it provided. Apple had forecast a wider-than-usual range revenue range for Q2, predicting revenue between $63.0 billion and $67.0 billion. Update: iOS 5.0.1 expires for developers on Wednesday December 14th — interesting. Apple has just begun seeding iOS 5.0.1 (9A402) to developers. The new update features battery life fixes, multitasking gestures on the original iPad, improves Voice recognition for Australian users, and features other bug and security fixes. Apple just announced in a press release this evening that its Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering Bob Mansfield would retire. Apple’s current vice president of iPad hardware engineering, Dan Riccio, will take over the position during the next several months. Apple CEO Tim Cook had some kind words to say about Mansfield, who has been with the company since 1999. Mansfield has played a huge role in recent hardware releases for the company: since 2008, the SVP has led Mac hardware, and he led hardware for the iPod and iPhone since 201o....

After several months of planning and organizing, an Apple Store in Maryland has become the first Apple retail location in the United States to vote to unionize. Employees at the Apple Store in Towson voted in favor of unionization today, with the final tally being 65 votes in favor and 33 votes in opposition. While Apple will be including a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter with the purchase of every iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the company will also be selling the adapter separately. Apple has listed the adapter on its website and it carries a surprisingly low price tag of $9. Apple says that the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter will work with all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models, but that iOS 10 is required....

Apple’s highly anticipated show Foundation premiered just two weeks ago, but even so, fans will be thrilled to know that Apple has just renewed it for its second season. The news was confirmed to Variety on Thursday by the head of programming for Apple TV+, Matt Cherniss. Cherniss thanked the global audience who “embrace the captivating, suspenseful and breathtaking thrill ride” that is Foundation, which will return for a second season....

Bloomberg noted today that Apple has updated the environmental report on its website to include new information for 2012. We reported in January that CEO Tim Cook had plans to achieve 100 percent renewable energy by the end of 2013, and Apple confirmed on Thursday it has now achieved 100 percent renewable energy at all of its data center. Apple also noted that it is investing in new methods to achieve 100 percent renewable energy throughout all of its corporate facilities worldwide....
