According to Jason Momoa, Aquaman won’t get along with Cyborg and Batman at the beginning of Justice League. Much of the excitement surrounding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came from the first onscreen team-up of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Likewise, it’s hard to deny that the major appeal of Justice League is seeing some of DC’s biggest heroes interact with one another. Beyond that, the dynamics between the various characters will be an important part of making the film more than mere wish fulfillment.
As we approach the release of Justice League in just a few more weeks, marketing for the film has been yielding countless promos and interviews. Many of these early looks at the film have provided insight into some of the team dynamics we’ll see up on the screen. Yesterday, for instance, we got an extended look at Batman and The Flash’s relationship. As one of the most seasoned and youngest heroes, respectively, their pairing should be an interesting and entertaining one. Aquaman, by comparison, will be something of a wild card.
In the latest issue of Total Film (via Games Radar), Momoa speaks about Aquaman’s initial interactions with the team. While the actor says his character and The Flash will get along, Arthur Curry won’t be too keen on Cyborg or Batman, in the beginning:
Ray Fisher has indicated the opposite is true when it comes to Cyborg and Aquaman’s dynamic, stating that the two heroes share a lot in common as they straddle two worlds. Of course, that could also lead to them butting heads initially. As for Aquaman’s feelings about Bruce Wayne/Batman, it’s not really surprising. Even if Arthur Curry isn’t yet a king, he’s clearly a loner. In that latter regard, he actually shares a lot in common with Bruce. Nevertheless, it’s clear his ego will cause some tension between the two.
“Me and Cyborg do not get along at all. I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him. Over time, that will change. It’s the same thing with Bruce [Wayne]. I’m like, ‘Nah, I’m not buying into it.'”
Momoa doesn’t speak about Aquaman’s relationship with Wonder Woman, but those two will likely get along the best. Though their personalities differ, they truly walk between two worlds. While Arthur isn’t yet well versed in Atlantean culture, his people and Diana’s will share a history in Justice League. Luckily, we won’t have to wait much longer to see how all the characters will interact together as Justice League is just around the corner.
