A creative fan combined the posters for Aquaman and The Meg. Aquaman is the latest film in the unofficially titled DC Extended Universe. It follows up last year’s Justice League and focuses on the character of Aquaman aka Arthur Curry played by Jason Momoa. Aquaman was initially introduced in a quick scene in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The bulk of his action and character development so far came in Justice League, but his part of the superhero universe will be further explored in Aquaman. The film stars Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as villain, Black Manta.
The Meg is an upcoming action horror film directed by Jon Turteltaub and written by Dean Georgaris. It’s about a massive prehistoric shark called a megalodon that makes a reappearance in modern day to terrorize an underwater facility. The movie stars Jason Statham, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Bingbing Li and Masi Oka. It’s set to hit theaters this summer, four months before Aquaman in December.
The poster for Aquaman was released yesterday. It features a leather pant-wearing Aquaman perched on a rock surrounded by a variety of sharks, whales, turtles and other underwater creatures. The poster quickly drew comparisons to The Meg, with many fans asking for a crossover. In their fan-made poster, Twitter user BossLogic removed the underwater creatures and placed Aquaman on the back of the megalodon from The Meg.
Screen Rant editor Stephen M. Colbert also tweeted out his version of a crossover poster. It features the gaping mouth of a massive shark getting ready to engulf Aquaman.
The tagline of the real Aquaman poster is “Home is calling.” It hints at a plot that sees Aquaman returning back to his home of Atlantis where he will be challenged by his half brother (Patrick Wilson) for the throne of the kingdom. More information about Aquaman should be revealed at the at the Warner Bros. San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday. Director James Wan said the first trailer should drop during the panel. Over the weekend Wan tweeted a picture of an editing suite that featured an image from the soon to be released trailer, saying he is “working overtime to put the finishing touches for this coming week.” A work-in-progress trailer was shown as CinemaCon. Exhibitors received a view of the undersea kingdom of Atlantis along with its inhabitants and futuristic submarines.
In addition to being able to survive underwater, Aquaman also has the ability to communicate with sea creatures. The combination of the king of the seas and one of the ocean’s oldest inhabitants is one that makes sense and makes an entertaining visual. Of course, Aquaman would want the megalodon on his side to combat whatever difficulties he encounters during his return to Atlantis. BossLogic created a striking image that combines these two underwater movies filled with interesting creatures. Though the megalodon won’t be featured in Aquaman, the DC movie will have its own share of large sea creatures to obey Aquaman’s will.
