James Wan’s Aquaman movie, starring Jason Momoa as the eponymous superhero, will officially wrap production today. The upcoming film - the next installment in Warner Bros.’ DC film universe following the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League next month - marks the character’s first live-action solo movie on the big screen, something that has become increasingly more anticipated as time goes on. After all, there weren’t too many people that were all too excited about the prospect of an Aquaman movie from the get-go.

Snyder and the rest of the DC Films team were hoping to change casual moviegoers’ (and some longtime comic book fans’) minds about the underwater superhero with his inclusion in Justice League, where Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, will make his official debut following a quick cameo in Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice last year. Then, following the release of Justice League, Momoa will reprise his role as Aquaman, alongside Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, in Wan’s Aquaman movie in December 2018.

Aquaman has been filming in Australia under the working title of Ahab since May, and the plan was to conclude principal photography sometime around October, thus giving the post-production team enough time to complete the film and allowing Momoa to join the rest of his co-stars on the Justice League press tour. And it looks like they will be wrapping on-time, for Momoa has taken to Instagram to announce the last day of filming on the movie. Take a look:

Update: director James Wan has also tweeted, including a picture of him on set in front of a massive creature prop, most likely a whale.

The news comes one week after Patrick Wilson - who plays Arthur’s villainous half-brother, Orm Marius, aka Ocean Master - completed his portion of the film and three weeks after Dafoe wrapped his scenes as Atlantis’ chief scientific advisor to the king - or would-be king (after all, Arthur won’t become the King of Atlantis until the end of his solo film). So, going off the recent news as well as the latest set photos, it seems that the remaining scenes on the production schedule appear to be ones between Arthur and his beloved wife, Mera.

As previously mentioned, Aquaman will be the studio’s next DC Comics-related movie to hit theaters following the release of Justice League, and it is currently scheduled to go up against Travis Knights’ upcoming Transformers spinoff movie, Bumblebee. While both movies cater to roughly the same audiences, considering how Paramount Pictures’ franchise has been underperforming domestically, Aquaman shouldn’t have a problem taking the weekend - but that’s something we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
