Ocean Master’s helmet and more is revealed on a new Aquaman themed magazine cover. Jason Momoa has made two appearances in DC films as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, but audiences still haven’t seen his true self yet. His character and world weren’t central focuses of Justice League, leaving director James Wan the ability to craft his own vision. The solo movie is the lone DC live-action film hitting theaters this year for Warner Bros. and everything is building towards the debut of its first trailer later this week.
The footage will come on Saturday during Warner Bros.’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. In the days leading up to it, though, they aren’t sitting idly by. The set visit embargo for Aquaman lifted yesterday and provided several new pieces of information. But, there’s also been images and posters to focus on DC’s underwater hero. Thanks to a new magazine cover, his entire world is now revealed.
Den of Geek released their magazine cover for their SDCC 2018 issue and it puts everything Aquaman related on it. The cover - illustrated by DC Comics artists Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, and Marcelo Maiolo - provides brand new looks at all the major characters, but also finally revealed Orm’s (Patrick Wilson) Ocean Master mask. It’s incredibly faithful to the comics and likely an indication that a proper look at the full suit will come during the trailer.
While Ocean Master’s helmet is the biggest reveal, this cover provides a ton of new looks at the entire cast of characters. Right next to Ocean Master’s glorious helmet is another famous one, with Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) standing right beside him. Another look at Djimon Hounsou’s Fisherman King and Nicole Kidman’s Queen Atlanna are included on the cover, as well as the first look at Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, the leader of the Xebel kingdom. We also get our first proper look at Willem Dafoe’s Vulko, who was previously cut out of Justice League. As for the main heroes, Mera (Amber Heard) is shown too, along with Momoa’s Aquaman - who is wearing something green and mysterious around his neck.
Going beyond just the characters though, the locations, creatures, and technology of Atlantis and the Seven Kingdoms are also on display. The Brine and Trench species are featured on the left and right of the cover respectively, while the white-armored warriors could be part of Atlantis or The Missing Kingdom. Giant tentacles reach to the sky behind all of these characters and the Curry Lighthouse is featured on the right. Close by, some sting-ray styled aquatic vessels can be seen too. All these pieces of Aquaman are just the beginning, so it continues to become clear just how vast this movie will be.
