Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski has shared his praises for Warner Bros.’ latest entry in the DCEU franchise, Aquaman. The film currently claims the #3 spot on the DCEU’s worldwide box office chart, coming in right behind 2017’s well-received Wonder Woman. While Aquaman scored the lowest domestic opening for the DCEU franchise, it has still been receiving generally positive reviews. Prior to its release, the superhero movie managed to take in nearly $3 million from early screenings, and it has been dominating the box office ever since.
Aquaman is currently on track to earn over $1 billion worldwide, proving to be very successful overseas. It’s particularly done extremely well in China, where the amphibious superhero film set a record as Warner Bros.’ highest grossing release. The responses Aquaman received overseas lead to it being granted an extra month of screenings in China. The praise for the movie continues as Marvel’s own editor-in-chief has shared his thoughts on the latest film in the growing DCEU.
Over the weekend, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski took to Twitter to share his praises for Aquaman. Cebulski enjoyed it for managing to take him back to his childhood, and for being a fun movie-going experience. The Atlantean superhero’s grasp on audiences only continues to grow with each passing moment, which must be good news for both Warner Bros.’ and DC. Cebulski tweeted the following this past Friday:
Fans and moviegoers like to play up a heated rivalry between Marvel and DC, constantly debating which one is “best.” However, those who work for the two companies try to downplay that dynamic as often as possible, evidenced by Shazam director David F. Sandberg calling the whole rivalry stupid. So, it’s refreshing to see a member of Marvel’s team give Aquaman their stamp of approval. From the sound of things, Cebulski plans on seeing DC’s latest venture in the theater multiple times, taking his niece and nephew to see it down the road.
Fans of the DCEU can rejoice, as the franchise has bounced back from the Justice League flop. Aquaman offers promise for the future, giving WB another hero to build around after Wonder Woman was such a massive hit in 2017. And while an Aquaman sequel hasn’t been officially announced yet, the film’s success all but ensures one will be in the near future. But until that time comes, it’s not too late for others to see what the fuss is about and check out Aquaman in theaters.
