DC Extended Universe solo film Aquaman is set to arrive in the fall of next year, following the release of the Wonder Woman solo movie this June and Zack Snyder’s Justice League bringing the biggest superheroes of the DCEU together, this November. Things are moving along smoothly on the Aquaman front right now, with pre-production well underway ahead of Aquaman’s filming start date this upcoming May in Australia (among other locations).
Aquaman star Jason Momoa is likewise keeping busy, training with tridents and swords for his return to the role of Arthur Curry. Snyder has even offered a glimpse of an underwater scene from Justice League that features Momoa as Mr. Curry in motion, giving everyone a taste of what a good chunk of director James Wan’s Aquaman film will look like. The Conjuring and Insidious filmmaker is now offering fans a different sort of “sneak peek” for his DCEU movie, this time focusing on real-world locations.
Wan has taken to Instagram to share a number of the shoreside locations that he’s scouting for principal photography on his Aquaman movie. You can check out the photos posted by Wan, below:

Naturally, none of these idyllic and tropical beach locales are all that surprising given the context of Aquaman. Still, thanks to some helpful comments, they might reveal a few interesting things about the production of the film. According to Wan’s followers, the second shot is in Indonesia, with the third being in Hawaii. While there’s no guarantee this will mean a globetrotting movie, it would make sense for the king of the seas to travel the world. The Hawaiian location also lines up with a previous report stating both a Namor production and Aquaman will be coming to the state.
The final image was called out as a possible stand-in for Amnesty Bay. In the comics, it’s the home of Aquaman’s human father, and the town where he was raised as Arthur Curry. One of the big questions surrounding Aquaman has been how he will be portrayed. If Amnesty Bay is really in the film, we could see some flashbacks to Arthur’s upbringing before he harnessed his powers and set about claiming his birthright in Atlantis. Seeing as both the DCEU Superman origin film Man of Steel and Wonder Woman solo movie contain flashbacks to their namesakes’ pasts (as the final Wonder Woman trailer confirms), there’s a fair chance Aquaman follows suit in that respect.
