Warning: Minor SPOILERS for Aquaman #59
Things haven’t been easy for Aquaman since his return following his return from the Unspoken Waters. He reunited with the love of his life Mera, found out he is going to be a father and had to deal with Black Manta and his dark gift from Lex, the Mecha Manta. Now, Arthur currently finds himself at the side of a pregnant but comatose Mera, unaware that his half-brother is lurking in the shadows and has set his sights on reclaiming the Throne of Atlantis.
DC Solicits show spinning out of the events of the DC’s Year of the Villain one-shot featuring the return of Ocean Master and Aquaman #58, Aquaman and his half-brother, Ocean Master, are set to once again clash over the throne of Atlantis over who will be the future heir apparent.
After he found himself banished from Atlantis after starting a war with the surface and the Justice League, Orm resurfaced having found love and a new life on the surface until Mera asks for him to help her take back the throne, which had usurped from Arthur. Ocean Master betrays Mera and finds himself a prisoner of Atlantis and unable to return to his new family on the surface. Recent events in Orm’s life led him to reconsider life on the surface and a return to reclaim the throne that was once his.
The cover art teases that Ocean Master will bring his newly acquired sea elemental Lernaea while the creatures that Aquaman has a long history with, The Trench, featured in the flashback story in Issue #56, will be fighting alongside Arthur.
Orm’s and Arthur’s battle over Atlantis who will rule Atlantis is a long-standing feud between the two siblings, however, this time, it is not only about who will sit in the throne in the present but also who will do so in the future. It is unclear as to if Orm currently knows about Arthur and Mera’s child, the heir apparent to Atlantis’ throne, but one thing is for sure, a new baby won’t be the only thing keeping Aquaman from getting a good night’s sleep.
