DC Extended Universe’s upcoming film project Aquaman has recently found its young Arthur Curry. The character will be mainly played by Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa as we venture into his world in his first standalone film scheduled to hit theaters December of next year.
There is still a scarcity of information regarding the aforementioned project as DC and Warner Bros. have yet to release an official synopsis to the film. But its production has been quietly ongoing since May of this year on Gold Coast, Australia with a lot of main game players one by one arriving in the country to shoot their respective scenes. The project is helmed by Fast and Furious 7 and The Conjuring franchise director James Wan. Momoa will be joined by Amber Heard, who plays his love interest and Queen of the undersea Mera; Nicole Kidman, who is Arthur’s mother, Atlanna; and Williem Dafoe who is his chief scientific adviser, Nuidis Vulko, to name a few. Now, we know who will be playing Arthur as a youth.
The casting news is courtesy of Twitter user The Aquaman Shrine announcing that Kaan Guldur will be playing the role of 9-year-old Arthur in the DCEU standalone. The up and coming young actor is known for his role in the film short titled Red Ink. He will also have a part in the upcoming The Lego Ninjago Movie.
Last month, a report suggesting that the young Aquaman gig has been nabbed by Australian child performer Otis Dhanji has circulated online. The casting was first spotted on the film’s cast list request, however, it was eventually taken down. Apparently, Dhanji will be playing Arthur at the age of 13 which gives us the impression that we will be seeing growth progression to the character.

What is interesting is that Aquaman has been confirmed by DC EU as executive producer Charles Roven will be set after the events of Justice League, which will be Arthur’s more official entry in the shared interconnected universe. The ensemble film will see the king of undersea teaming up with other superheroes in the DC slate including Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Superman (Henry Cavill), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). The Wan film can take ideas on how Patty Jenkins effectively incorporated a young Diana in Wonder Woman. Although it is possible that instead of the majority of the film taking place in the past, just snippets of flashbacks can be utilized to establish Arthur’s childhood.
So far, all of DCEU’s standalone films have featured a younger version of the character. We have seen a young Clark Kent growing up in Smallville in Cavill’s Man of Steel and more recently, a young Diana in Wonder Woman. Although not having a solo film yet, we have also seen a young Bruce Wayne in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The pattern will then continues with Momoa’s Aquaman also absorbing the storytelling style.
