Just after it was revealed that Frank Ocean’s highly-anticapted album “Boys Don’t Cry” would be coming exclusively to Apple Music, another high-ticket exclusive has been revealed. Britney Spears today announced that her new album, her first in three years, will be coming exclusively to Apple Music on August 26th.
The album, titled “Glory,” has been expected for an extended period of time, but only now have we gotten a release date. The album is a follow up to 2013’s “Britney Jean” and is the start of what Spears is calling “the beginning of a new era.”
Spears’ album will also be available for pre-order on iTunes starting at midnight EST tonight. Those who pre-order it will receive an instant download of “Private Show,” a track off of the LP. Presumably, Spears’ latest single “Make Me,” which features rapper G-Eazy, will also be included on “Glory.”
“Glory” is the second high-profile album revealed to be exclusive to the Apple Music streaming service in the past two days. Frank Ocean’s “Boys Don’t Cry” will stream on Apple Music beginning this Friday, August 5th. Additionally, Ocean is partnering with Apple to make a printed magazine available in Apple retail locations.
This duo of Apple Music exclusives comes just days after Kanye West slammed the “beef” between Apple Music and Tidal, the Jay Z-owned streaming service. While Apple has been rumored to be interested in acquiring Tidal, the two companies have also battled over exclusive rights for albums, including West’s most recent offering “The Life of Pablo.” Nevertheless, I’m sure Kanye isn’t too happy about Ocean and Spears taking their new offerings exclusively to Apple Music.
In the past, Apple has exclusively streamed offerings from artists including Drake, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and others.
Britney Spears’ “Glory” will be available on Apple Music beginning on August 26th, while a pre-order via iTunes will go love tonight at midnight EST. It’s unclear how long Apple will hold exclusive rights to the album, but in the case of Frank Ocean’s LP, the exclusive period lasts 2 weeks.
